Why retailers are pinning hopes on Pinterest

Pinterest = $$?

It was a nearly overnight social media phenomenon-Pinterest-coming out of left field with the newest wave to social media. You are able to ‘pin’ different pictures that link to a website or blog to a ‘board’. It’s the ultimate cork board of wants. From wanting to try the latest recipe or hairstyle to wanting to visit a beautiful castle in Ireland or that beach in the South of France, Pinterest has just about everything. Companies soon realized the potential for this and started figuring out how to use Pinterest to bring in more revenue.

“Pinterest shoppers, on average, spend nearly $170 per session, according to a study by RichRelevance, an e-commerce consultant, which tracked 700 million shopping sessions. In comparison, Facebook shoppers spend $95 per session, while Twitter shoppers spend $70.” (http://www.nbcnews.com/business/why-retailers-are-pinning-hopes-pinterest-1C8661410)

These numbers are just astounding, $100 more per session than Twitter marketing can bring in! If I was running a business, I would definitely be focusing more on a Pinterest page than a Twitter page.
